MOHALI: A 30-year-old woman employed at a private company in Mohali was allegedly stabbed to death by her former partner at their workplace on Thursday evening. The accused later attempted to take his own life using the same weapon, police said.
The incident occurred at an office in Sector 66 and has sent shockwaves through employees and local residents.
Victim and Accused Worked Together
The deceased has been identified as Dimple, a resident of Patiala. She was employed at a packers and movers company where the accused, Harvinder Mann alias Harry, also worked.
According to police, both had been associated with the company for nearly three years.
Relationship Had Ended Months Ago
Preliminary investigations suggest that Dimple and Harvinder were previously in a relationship but had separated around six months ago.
Police sources indicated that Harvinder had reportedly been attempting to reconnect with Dimple, while she had chosen to distance herself following the breakup.
Argument Turns Violent
Investigators said Dimple was working late at the office on Thursday evening when Harvinder arrived at the premises.
An argument allegedly broke out between the two, following which Harvinder is accused of attacking her with a knife.
Police said the victim suffered multiple stab injuries, causing panic among other employees present at the office.
Accused Allegedly Attempts Suicide
After the attack, Harvinder allegedly stabbed himself multiple times with the same weapon.
Police personnel rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident and arranged for both individuals to be transported to a nearby private hospital.
Doctors declared Dimple dead on arrival, while the accused remains hospitalised in critical condition.
Murder Case Registered
Police have registered a murder case and collected evidence from the crime scene as part of the investigation.
Officials said the precise sequence of events and the motive behind the attack will become clearer once investigators are able to record the accused’s statement, subject to his medical condition.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are continuing to examine evidence and interview witnesses who were present at the office during the incident.
The case is being investigated as an alleged act of violence linked to a former relationship, though police have said all aspects of the matter will be examined before reaching final conclusions.
