A 34-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside a locked apartment in Bengaluru’s Adugodi area, with investigators probing multiple angles to determine the cause of death.
The deceased, identified as Puja Dutta, was a private company employee originally from Hirapur in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. She had been living alone in a rented flat for the past three years.
Police were alerted after neighbours reported a foul smell coming from the residence. When officers arrived, they had to call a locksmith to break open the door, which was bolted from inside. Inside, they found Dutta’s body in a decomposed state, suggesting she may have died at least three days earlier.
The scene raised several questions. The body was found in a pool of blood, with torn papers scattered across the room and a table fan running nearby. Investigators have not ruled out suicide, but the presence of blood and the overall condition of the room have added to the mystery.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, and officials say the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after forensic analysis. Police are currently examining her phone records and questioning acquaintances.
According to the landlord, who has been identified as Janakamma, Dutta was unmarried and had been staying in the flat for three years. She added that a man frequently visited Dutta and that the two often had arguments, though the nature of their relationship remains unclear.
The landlord also said Dutta had disputes with neighbours over loud music and had recently been asked to vacate the premises. The last confirmed sighting of Dutta was on Thursday, when a prospective tenant had come to view the house.
Police are now attempting to identify and trace the frequent visitor and reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to her death. The investigation remains ongoing.
