A woman allegedly stabbed her newlywed sister-in-law to death in Indore’s Nehru Nagar following a dispute over an insulting remark about her brother, who is currently in Damoh Jail in connection with a rape case, police said.
The accused, identified as Parvati Bai Kushwaha, allegedly attacked Vandana with a kitchen knife during an argument on Thursday, striking her twice on the neck.
Police said tensions between the two women had been building since Raksha Bandhan. Vandana had allegedly mocked Parvati over her brother’s arrest, which reportedly angered her and led to repeated arguments.
The dispute escalated on Thursday after Vandana allegedly told Parvati that her husband was under her control and threatened that Parvati would be forced to leave the house. Enraged, Parvati allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and attacked her sister-in-law.
Vandana had married Upendra Patel on August 11 and was living with his family in Nehru Nagar.
Body Found in Water Tank
After the alleged attack, Parvati reportedly dragged Vandana’s body outside the house and dumped it into a water tank before leaving to visit her husband, who was undergoing treatment at Aurobindo Hospital.
At the time, Parvati’s children were at school, while her husband and brother-in-law were also in hospital. Police said no other family members were present inside the house.
Neighbours reportedly heard Vandana screaming during the argument. When the house later became quiet, they became suspicious and alerted the police.
Officers who arrived at the scene searched the premises and found Vandana’s body inside the water tank. She had suffered visible injuries to her neck.
CCTV Footage Helps Police Identify Suspect
DCP Narendra Rawat said police examined CCTV footage from the area, which allegedly showed Parvati leaving the house after the incident. Investigators also collected other evidence linking her to the crime.
Police subsequently questioned Parvati. During interrogation, she allegedly confessed to attacking Vandana following the argument.
Vandana’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination and later handed over to her family. Parvati was arrested on Friday, and further investigation into the case is underway.
