A woman was allegedly gang-raped by four to six men in Odisha’s Cuttack district late Tuesday night after the group reportedly stopped the vehicle in which she was travelling with a male friend, police said.

The woman and her friend were travelling from Bhubaneswar towards Kendrapara when the accused allegedly intercepted their vehicle near Sukarpada village on the Cuttack-Chandbali Road.

According to police, the men assaulted the woman’s friend before allegedly sexually assaulting the woman. The group then fled the scene.

Cuttack Rural Superintendent of Police Vinit Agrawal said an FIR had been registered at Nischintakoili police station based on the survivor’s complaint.

A DSP-rank officer and a woman police officer have been assigned to lead the investigation. Police have formed multiple teams and are conducting raids at different locations to trace and arrest the accused.

Police said efforts to identify and apprehend those involved are underway.
