VIJAYAWADA: A woman has accused a police officer in Andhra Pradesh of sexual assault and issuing death threats, prompting an investigation by local authorities in Vinukonda rural mandal of Palnadu district.
According to police sources, the woman approached the Vinukonda police station on Wednesday and filed a complaint against Circle Inspector Chinna Mallaiah. She alleged that the officer entered her house and assaulted her after threatening to kill her.
The complainant, whose family is originally from Vinukonda town, currently lives in a rented house in a nearby village. She stated that the accused, who reportedly owns a house in the same village, targeted her when she was alone at home.
Following the complaint, authorities shifted the woman to a government hospital, where medical examinations were conducted as part of the investigation.
Officials confirmed that a case has been registered against the officer based on her allegations, and a probe is currently underway.
Police sources added that Mallaiah had previously worked in the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and is currently in vacancy reserve, awaiting a posting. The case has also drawn attention due to past controversies involving the officer, including allegations of threatening political figures.
The identity of the survivor has not been disclosed, in line with Supreme Court guidelines on protecting the privacy of victims in sexual assault cases.
