A US-based doctor has reported the theft of 725 grams of gold jewellery worth nearly ₹1 crore from a wedding venue in Bengaluru, prompting a police investigation.
The complainant, Siruvella Sridevi (52), had travelled to the city on April 18 to attend her nephew’s wedding and was staying in Ganganagar. She visited a convention hall in Katamnallur for the reception on April 22.
According to her complaint, her brother handed over a box containing gold ornaments to her at the venue in the evening. After wearing some of the jewellery, she placed the remaining items back in the box, kept it inside a bag, and locked the room allotted to her before stepping out for the समारोह.
When she returned about 30 minutes later, the box containing the gold was missing.
Sridevi also informed police that a woman working as domestic help had entered the room while she was getting ready, raising suspicion about possible involvement.
Police have registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and have launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the venue and surrounding areas is being examined to trace the accused.
