Tensions flared at the United Nations Security Council as the United States accused Russia of supplying military equipment—including jets and tanks—to Iran, raising concerns over escalating instability in the Gulf region.
Washington alleged that Moscow’s growing defence cooperation with Tehran poses a direct threat to regional security, while also linking the development to broader geopolitical alignments emerging from the ongoing war in Ukraine.
China, however, strongly rejected parallel US accusations that it is aiding Russia through dual-use supplies. Beijing described the claims as “old rhetoric,” instead blaming Western arms support for prolonging the conflict in Ukraine.
Russia responded sharply, dismissing the criticism as a “cheap show” designed to divert attention from Western involvement in global conflicts. Moscow accused the US of politicising the Security Council and undermining diplomatic efforts.
Meanwhile, Ukraine warned that civilian areas continue to face sustained attacks, urging the international community not to lose focus on the humanitarian impact of the war.
The heated exchange at the UN underscores widening global divisions, with major powers increasingly at odds over conflicts spanning Ukraine and the Middle East. The confrontation also highlights the growing overlap between regional crises, raising concerns about broader instability and its potential impact on global security and trade.
