A 20-year-old man accused of killing a woman and her four children in Uttar Pradesh was shot dead in a police encounter while allegedly attempting to flee towards Nepal.
The accused, Aamir Ahmad, was identified as the prime suspect in the murder of 35-year-old Gaasiya Khaaton and her four children in Ambedkar Nagar. According to police, he was intercepted near the Nevteria bypass under the jurisdiction of Akbarpur Kotwali early Monday morning.
Officials said Aamir, who was out on bail in a separate murder case, allegedly pressured the victim to marry him in order to gain control over her property. When she refused, he is believed to have first killed her and then her four children.
Superintendent of Police Prachi Singh stated that initial confusion in the case—where police had earlier suggested the mother killed the children—was cleared after new evidence emerged. Mobile phone data, CCTV footage, forensic inputs, and local testimonies pointed to the involvement of a male suspect at the crime scene.
Investigators found that the accused lived close to the victim’s house and had been seen there shortly before the murders. Witnesses also reported hearing an argument between the two a day earlier. Surveillance later confirmed his presence again on the day of the killings.
Following the incident, Aamir went into hiding, prompting police to launch a manhunt. Acting on intelligence inputs, a team tracked and confronted him, during which he was killed in an encounter.
Authorities say further investigation is ongoing to establish the full sequence of events and confirm all forensic details in the case.
