A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district was allegedly strangled to death by his wife, three sons and a nephew during a domestic quarrel, with all five accused arrested by police.
The deceased, Bohare Lal, a resident of Unchagaon village under Magorra police station limits, was found dead on April 22. Initially, an FIR was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder and destruction of evidence, based on a complaint filed by one of his sons.
During the investigation, police uncovered that the complaint itself was part of an attempt to mislead authorities. The accused—identified as Rahul (28), Rohit (25), Saurabh (20), their mother Santosh Devi (50), and cousin Brijesh (42)—were arrested on Saturday night.
According to police officials, Bohare Lal was allegedly addicted to alcohol and frequently argued with family members. On the day of the incident, he reportedly returned home intoxicated and got into a heated altercation. During the scuffle, family members tried to restrain him using a cloth towel (ghamcha) around his neck, which resulted in his death.
Investigators said the accused then attempted to cover up the crime by staging it as a suicide. They allegedly hung the body inside a room before dumping it in a nearby pond behind a locked house.
Police added that the deceased was unemployed and financially dependent on his sons, which may have contributed to ongoing tensions within the family. Further investigation is underway.
