GUWAHATI: Two young siblings—a five-year-old boy and his five-month-old sister—were killed in a suspected rocket attack on their home in Manipur’s Bishnupur district early Tuesday morning.
According to initial reports, the explosion occurred at around 1:05 am in Tronglaobi Awang Leikai. The children were asleep with their mother when the blast struck the house.
While the two minors died in the attack, their mother sustained injuries and survived. She has been shifted for medical treatment, officials said.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, which is suspected to be linked to the ongoing unrest in the state. Security forces are assessing the nature of the projectile used and the source of the attack.
The incident has heightened concerns over civilian safety in violence-affected areas, particularly as attacks continue to impact vulnerable populations, including women and children.
Further details are awaited.
