A functionary of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was arrested in Kanyakumari on Thursday for allegedly sexually harassing a college student while offering to drop her home.
According to police, the victim and her friend, both students at a private college in Nagercoil, were waiting for a government bus on October 20. Citing heavy rainfall, TVK district executive committee member Christopher offered to drive them home.
After dropping off the first student, he allegedly sexually harassed the victim during the remaining journey. The student informed her parents after reaching home, following which they filed a complaint at Thuckalay police station.
Christopher was arrested under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, TVK deputy general secretary and Law Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar said the party would take appropriate action if the accused was found guilty.
