US President Donald Trump on Tuesday intensified his messaging around America’s ongoing military campaign against Iran by sharing dramatic footage of explosions in the city of Isfahan. The video, posted on Truth Social without a caption, showed large fireballs lighting up the night sky over the central Iranian city.
The strikes are believed to be part of “Operation Epic Fury,” a joint US-Israeli effort targeting key military infrastructure. According to a US official cited by The Wall Street Journal, American forces struck a major ammunition depot in Isfahan using 2,000-pound bunker-buster bombs, with multiple penetrator munitions reportedly deployed.
Isfahan, home to around 2.3 million people and the Badr military airbase, is also considered strategically significant due to its links to Iran’s nuclear programme. The city has previously been targeted, including during last year’s Operation Midnight Hammer, which focused on nuclear-related facilities.
Earlier, Trump had warned that Iran’s energy infrastructure could be “obliterated” if negotiations failed, signalling a further escalation in tensions.
What are B-2 bombers?
The B-2 Spirit is among the most advanced stealth aircraft in the world. Its flying-wing design and radar-evading materials allow it to operate in heavily defended airspace, making it ideal for high-risk precision strikes.
The bomber is capable of carrying the GBU-57 “bunker-buster,” a powerful munition designed to penetrate deep underground before detonating. These weapons are specifically built to destroy fortified targets such as nuclear facilities and buried command centres.
During earlier operations, B-2 bombers reportedly deployed such munitions on Iranian nuclear sites, highlighting the US military’s capability to target deeply buried infrastructure.
