President Donald Trump on Friday announced the nomination of Sergio Gor, a close aide and White House Director of Presidential Personnel, as the next U.S. Ambassador to India. If confirmed by the Senate, Gor will also serve concurrently as Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs — a region that includes key countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh, where U.S. embassies are currently led by chargés d’affaires due to the absence of appointed ambassadors.

“For the most populous Region in the World, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my Agenda and help us, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador,” Trump stated in a social media post. He described Gor as “a great friend, who has been at my side for many years.”

At 39, Gor will become the youngest U.S. ambassador ever appointed to India, replacing Eric Garcetti, a Democratic nominee who stepped down at the end of President Biden’s term and returned to California.

Gor, born in Tashkent (then part of the USSR, now Uzbekistan), has no known prior experience or academic background specifically related to India. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1999 with his parents at age 12. His father, Yuri Gorokhovsky, was reportedly an aviation engineer who contributed to the Soviet IL-76 refueling aircraft — a model also used by the Indian Air Force — while his mother is of Israeli descent.

After settling in the Los Angeles area, Gor attended school there before moving to Washington, D.C., to study at George Washington University. He became active in conservative Republican circles early in his career, serving as a spokesman for far-right lawmakers such as Steve King and Michele Bachmann. He later joined Senator Rand Paul’s office, eventually becoming Deputy Chief of Staff.

Gor rose swiftly within Trump’s political orbit during the 2020 campaign. After Trump’s victory in 2024, he appointed Gor to lead the White House Office of Presidential Personnel. Trump credits him with hiring nearly 4,000 “America First Patriots” across the federal government — a record staffing effort praised by MAGA loyalists.

“He worked on my Historic Presidential Campaigns, published my Best Selling Books, and ran one of the biggest Super PACs supporting our Movement,” Trump said. “Sergio’s role as Director of Presidential Personnel has been essential to delivering on the unprecedented Mandate that we received from the American People.”

Gor, who shortened his original surname Gorokhovsky, now resides in Washington D.C., having previously lived near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
