JAIPUR: Rajasthan Police has sent a team to Ambala after Haryana’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested three suspected members of a terror module and recovered a 2 kg improvised explosive device (IED), officials said.
The arrests were made on Friday, with investigators suspecting that the accused had conducted reconnaissance in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh district.
Additional DGP (ATS) Dinesh MN said a Rajasthan Police team has been dispatched to question the suspects and gather more details about the alleged plot.
Preliminary inputs suggest the trio surveyed multiple locations in Punjab as well as key sites in Rajasthan and Haryana. “There are indications that videos of these places were recorded and shared with handlers to help identify potential targets,” an official said.
One of the arrested suspects is believed to be from Ajmer district in Rajasthan. Investigators are also probing whether the accused stored the IED in Hanumangarh for a few days before moving it elsewhere.
Police in Hanumangarh have begun scanning CCTV footage to trace the suspects’ movements. “We have sent a deputy SP-rank officer to Haryana and are in constant coordination with the STF,” an official said.
Authorities are also examining whether the suspects had any local support network. A special team has been formed to track their activities, including the places they visited within the district.
Officials added that in November last year, the Gujarat ATS had busted a similar terror module, where the accused claimed to have sourced an arms cache from Tibbi town in Hanumangarh.
