NEW DELHI: The bodies of three people, including an elderly man and a woman, were found inside a parked car near the Peeragarhi flyover in west Delhi on Sunday afternoon, prompting police to investigate whether the deaths were the result of suicide or homicide.
Police said they received a call around 3.50 pm reporting that three occupants in a stationary car were unresponsive and appeared unconscious. Officers rushed to the spot, located on a service lane near the flyover, and forced open the vehicle. All three were found dead inside, with a strong smell of a suspected poisonous substance emanating from the car.
The deceased were identified as Randhir Singh (76) of Baprola village, Shiv Naresh Singh (47), also from Baprola, and Laxmi Devi (40). Police said Randhir Singh was seated in the driver’s seat, while the other two were in the rear.
The vehicle was found to be owned by one of the victims. Crime and forensic teams were immediately called to the scene to examine the car and its surroundings. Investigators collected evidence and recovered documents that helped establish the identities of the deceased.
Police later contacted Randhir Singh’s family, and a relative arrived to identify him and Shiv Naresh Singh, who were acquaintances but not related. However, the relative was unable to explain Laxmi Devi’s connection to the two men.
Officials said cash, mobile phones and the jewellery worn by the woman were found intact inside the vehicle, ruling out an immediate robbery angle. Forensic experts also recovered a soft drink bottle from the car, which has been sent for examination to determine whether it contained any toxic substance.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the autopsy reports and detailed forensic analysis are completed.
