A 31-year-old woman from Telangana died in a road accident in Missouri, US, after a truck crashed into the car she was travelling in late Saturday night.
Daram Supriya, a native of Maripeda in Telangana’s Mahabubabad district, was returning home after closing her restaurant when the accident occurred, according to her family.
Supriya died at the scene, while a friend who was travelling with her suffered serious injuries. The friend, who is from Kodad in Telangana’s Suryapet district, was taken to a nearby hospital and is undergoing treatment, according to reports.
The accident occurred at around 1:40 am in the St Louis area, family members said. “We have no words. We are in a state of shock after learning about the incident,” Supriya’s father, D Srinivas, said.
Srinivas, who lives near Naidupeta Circle in Khammam, has appealed to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for government assistance in bringing his daughter’s mortal remains back to India for her final rites.
Supriya and her husband, Kodumuri Ranjith, both originally from Mahabubabad, lived in Wentzville, Missouri. Supriya ran a restaurant, while Ranjith works in the software sector.
The couple had been married for around five years and have a two-and-a-half-year-old son. Ranjith informed both families in Telangana about Supriya’s death following the accident.
As the family seeks to bring Supriya’s remains back to India, her relatives have also appealed for assistance from police officials and political leaders through social media.
“Our sister, Daram Supriya, from Khammam met with a car accident in Missouri. We have contacted CP Khammam via WhatsApp. Kindly help us,” a relative wrote in a social media appeal.
The family is now seeking support to complete the formalities and bring Supriya home for her final rites.
