A Panama-flagged crude oil tanker, MT Louise 1, carrying 27 Indian seafarers was reportedly attacked with limpet mines in the Strait of Hormuz, triggering a fire onboard. All crew members were safe and no injuries were reported, Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said.

The incident occurred on Thursday, approximately 25 nautical miles northeast of Oman’s Khasab, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency. The vessel was reportedly targeted by a small boat attaching explosives to its hull.

A Liberia-flagged tanker, MT Arzanah, carrying two Indian nationals, was also hit by a projectile attack. Both seafarers were reported safe.

The attacks come amid escalating threats to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies, following the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The identity of those responsible for the attack on MT Louise 1 remains unclear.
