Tamba Shipping Co., Ltd., and Fairfield Maritime Japan Ltd. (FMJ) have announced the formation of a 50/50 joint venture through which the two long-standing, family-owned shipping companies will work together as a tonnage provider, offering customized solutions to charterer requirements.
Named FT Ebisu Maritime, LLC, the new company will be established through a contract dated September 28, 2026. The new entity will operate from FMJ’s offices in Tokyo, which opened in September 2025.
The enterprise will combine two multi-generational, family-owned companies with a significant legacy in Japanese shipping, built over several decades of collaboration. FT Ebisu Maritime will provide domestic and international shipping services across a broad range of sectors, with a particular focus on chemical, product and gas tonnage.
“We’re pleased to partner with Fairfield Maritime Japan and Fairfield-Maxwell,” said Koichiro Tamba, President of Tamba Shipping. “We share identical values related to safety, sustainability and operational efficiency. We’re looking forward to growing our business together in a manner reflective of our histories.”
“We are proud to be a long-term partner with Tamba,” said Ryuichi Osonoe, President of Fairfield Maritime Japan. “We believe this joint venture will open opportunities for both companies, and will provide our clients with a stable partner, greater access to vessels and a broader range of shipping options.”
“Fairfield has been a partner of choice for world-class shippers for nearly 70 years,” said Christopher Sugahara, Chairman of the Board of Fairfield-Maxwell. “This partnership with Tamba not only confirms our family’s legacy and commitment to the shipping industry, but will provide a solid foundation from which we will build the next era of growth and success.”
