Danish marine pump specialist Svanehøj will take over Wärtsilä Tank Control Systems, expanding its LNG gauging system capabilities.

The acquisition has been approved by French authorities, and so Svanehøj will establish Svanehøj France – a new independent business for production, sales and service of land-based LNG tank gauging systems and hydraulic LPG safety valve systems.

Wärtsilä Tank Control Systems’ current production facility in Calais, France will become an independent Svanehøj business unit catering for land-based activities,  while the UK- and Singapore-based business focused on systems for LNG vessels will become part of the company’s global service business.

Svanehøj director of service and aftersales, Morten Christian Larsen will take on the added role of director of Svanehøj France.

“We are acquiring a company that has historically been at the forefront of systems that enhance the safety of liquified gas storage. Svanehøj is already a leading specialist in marine fuel and cargo pumps for liquefied gas, and we see obvious synergies in relation to both new sales, service and aftersales, which we will use to good advantage”, said Larsen.

Svanehøj’s said it expects a significant increase in demand for LNG, and that it plans to invest in the Calais production facility, “which is particularly well known in the industry for its unique turnkey tank gauging solutions.”

Announcing the divestment in September 2021, Wärtsilä said: “The business became part of Wärtsilä as a result of the acquisition of Total Automation in 2006 and has approximately 50 employees based in the UK, France and Singapore with a revenue of EUR7.5m in 2020.”
