StormGeo, a global provider of weather intelligence and maritime technology and part of Alfa Laval’s Ocean Division, has joined forces with the China Classification Society (CCS) to help digitalize emissions data sharing and verification. The partnership is a key step in StormGeo’s efforts to grow in China and better support local shipping customers.

“China plays a leading role in the transformation of global shipping, and we want StormGeo to be an active and trusted partner in that development. We are investing in our local capabilities, partnerships and technology to support that ambition, and our partnership with CCS is an important step in this long-term commitment,” said Espen Martinsen, Chief Commercial Officer at StormGeo.

StormGeo currently supports approximately 700 vessels on GHG emissions and vessel performance in the Chinese market and has clear ambitions to significantly expand its presence in the coming years.

“By combining StormGeo’s global technology and maritime expertise with CCS’s deep local knowledge and strong industry capabilities, we can deliver increasingly digital, integrated and automated solutions for data verification and environmental compliance. We look forward to working closely with CCS, our customers, and the wider Chinese maritime community to support the continued digitalization and sustainable development of Chinese shipping,” Martinsen added.

The partnership will allow emissions data to be shared directly, making it easier for customers using CCS’s verification services to send data from StormGeo’s solutions as part of their compliance work. Shipping companies that use StormGeo’s s-Insight platform for environmental compliance can now share their validated emissions data directly with CCS through an API. This digital link helps improve data quality and traceability throughout the verification process.

For CCS, the partnership presents a structured approach to receiving data from StormGeo’s systems, helping them better serve customers who use StormGeo’s solutions and ultimately improve the overall service delivery to shipping companies.

“Our partnership with StormGeo fits well with CCS’s ambition to build a digital and globally competitive classification society. The maturity of StormGeo’s emission data collection software and data quality assurance services, along with its adaptability to various vessel types, emission sources, and fuel types, is highly impressive. We look forward to deepening our collaboration to drive digital transformation in both Chinese and global markets, providing shipping companies with more convenient and efficient emission verification services,” said Mr. WEI Chong, Manager of Software Development at CCS.

Before launching the API, CCS tested and evaluated the performance and security of StormGeo’s systems and products on site. StormGeo successfully met the requirements CCS sets for interface adaptation and evaluation.

The partnership with CCS is part of StormGeo’s long-term plan to grow in China and help drive the continued digitalization and decarbonization in shipping.
