China’s busiest port operator SIPG and the world’s largest container line MSC have inked a joint venture agreement to develop empty container distribution center in Shanghai.

The two parties will jointly develop a Northeast Asia empty container distribution centre at Yangshan port, Shanghai, supporting higher-level development of Shanghai Lingang new district and improve Shanghai’s service ability as a global shipping hub port.

Through the establishment of this empty container distribution center, Shanghai port will continuously strengthen resources allocation for empty containers and optimise business process for handling empty container.

Shanghai port will also promote container yard construction for the empty container distribution center this year and perfect the management mechanism for the center.

As a strategic partner of SIPG, MSC will seek for more business expansion at Shanghai port for port operation and empty container distribution, as well as green logistics services.
