Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) has signed an agreement with CMA CGM for LNG bunkering service at Shanghai port.

Starting at the end of the first quarter of 2022, SIPG will provide simultaneous operation LNG bunkering service for CMA CGM’s vessels sailing from China to the US at Yangshan port, through a new 20,000 cu m LNG bunker barge. The barge will be the first of its kind to operate in China. 

“Shanghai Municipal Government attached great importance to the bonded LNG bunkering for international ships at Shanghai port. Bonded LNG bunkering for international ships is greatly related to fostering the world-class business environment of Shanghai as a harbor city and improving the service functions of Shanghai port,” said Gu Jinshan, chairman of SIPG.

“This agreement marks an important milestone in CMA CGM’s energy transition roadmap, as our group will be the first shipping line to bunker LNG in China, which paves he way for further developments to the benefit of our group and Shanghai region,” said Rodolphe Saade, ceo of CMA CGM.

SIPG and CMA CGM have operate international terminals and offer international shipping services respectively; the signing of the agreement is an important milestone in co-operation between the two groups and will further enhance and expand their partnership, according to SIPG.
