A Delhi court has granted AAP leader Satyendar Jain bail in a corruption case linked to alleged irregularities in Delhi Jal Board (DJB) sewage treatment plant tenders.
Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh said the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) appeared to have rushed to arrest Jain without gathering enough evidence. The court also questioned the 27-month delay between the registration of the case and Jain’s arrest.
Jain was granted bail on a ₹2 lakh personal bond and two sureties. The court noted that while some decisions taken by Jain during his tenure as Delhi’s water minister raised questions, the evidence collected so far was not sufficient to justify continued detention.
The ACB has accused Jain of helping manipulate DJB tenders to favour Euroteck Environmental Pvt Ltd, including allegedly approving changes that increased the capacity and estimated cost of an STP project.
However, the court observed that the available WhatsApp chats, call records and other material did not currently establish a direct link between Jain and the alleged kickbacks or hawala transactions. The investigation and trial will determine whether the allegations can ultimately be proved.
