Rizhao port in China has started operations of a fully automated container terminal with an innovative side loading and parallel layout.

The fully automated container terminal uses a process of shore layout side loading and unloading technology plus driverless truck horizontal transportation that could reduce the comprehensive terminal cost by 70%.

It could also lower 50% total energy consumption of single container during loading and uploading.

The independently designed vehicle road coordination system V2X used for the terminal is designed for the safe and orderly operation of driverless container trucks achieving “one click container handling” from the landside. A success rate reaching 100% is claimed, the highest level of the industry.

For the first time, the terminal jointly applies Beidou + 5G as well as domestic terminal operating system TOS on the whole process of automated container handling.

Since the establishment two years ago, Shandong Port Group had been engaged in fully automated container terminal construction, the successful operation of automated container terminals at Qingdao port and Rizhao port will further promote smart port development of the group.
