PUNE: Police are searching for an autorickshaw driver who allegedly assaulted a passenger and his elderly father following a dispute over fare in Pimpri’s Vallabhnagar area earlier this month.
According to officials from Sant Tukaramnagar police station, the incident took place on March 15 when the complainant, a 69-year-old man, along with his son and daughter-in-law, returned home in an autorickshaw booked through a cab aggregator.
Sub-inspector Rishikesh Kamble said the dispute began after the family reached their destination and the driver allegedly demanded a higher fare than what had been agreed upon.
“The complainant and his son got into an argument with the driver. Suddenly, the driver took out a wooden plank and began assaulting the son,” Kamble said.
When the elderly complainant attempted to intervene, the driver allegedly turned on him as well, punching him and pushing the daughter-in-law aside before fleeing the scene.
The victim approached the police the following day to lodge a formal complaint. Officials said the complainant has provided the autorickshaw’s registration number, which is expected to aid in tracing the accused.
Police have launched a search operation to locate the driver and further investigation is underway.
