President Droupadi Murmu on Monday announced a reshuffle of governors across six states, appointing four new governors and reallocating responsibilities for two existing governors, according to a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The changes include appointments to Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Odisha and Sikkim, alongside changes in the governorships of Tamil Nadu and Keralam.
Four New Governors Appointed
Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Dushyant Gautam has been appointed Governor of Sikkim, while former Lok Sabha MP Mohan Ram will take charge as Governor of Odisha.
Sudha Yadav, a former Lok Sabha MP and member of the BJP’s parliamentary board, has been appointed Governor of Karnataka. Dhal Singh Bisen, a former Madhya Pradesh legislator and cabinet minister, has been appointed Governor of Uttarakhand.
The appointments include two leaders from Other Backward Classes (OBC) communities, Sudha Yadav and Dhal Singh Bisen, and two Dalit leaders, Mohan Ram and Dushyant Gautam.
Changes in Tamil Nadu and Keralam
As part of the reshuffle, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who was serving as Governor of Keralam, has been appointed Governor of Tamil Nadu. Om Prakash Mathur, the former Governor of Sikkim, has been assigned responsibility for Keralam.
The changes are part of a broader reorganisation of gubernatorial responsibilities announced by the President.
Political Background of the New Appointees
Sudha Yadav represented Mahendragarh in Haryana in the Lok Sabha from 1994 to 2004 and later became a member of the BJP’s parliamentary board. Dhal Singh Bisen served as a legislator in Madhya Pradesh for four terms before becoming a cabinet minister in the state government.
Mohan Ram represented the Palamu constituency in Jharkhand in the Lok Sabha on three occasions, beginning with his election in 1996. He had also served in the Bihar Legislative Assembly before the formation of Jharkhand.
Dushyant Gautam has held several organisational positions within the BJP. He was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana in 2020 and contested the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, though he was unsuccessful.
The latest appointments bring changes to the constitutional leadership of six states, with the new governors expected to assume their respective responsibilities in accordance with the prescribed procedures.
