Orca AI has signed a memorandum of understanding with Samsung Heavy Industries to accelerate large-scale deployment of autonomous vessel technology across newbuild and existing fleets, according to Orca AI.

The agreement combines SHI’s autonomous ship systems with Orca AI’s AI-driven maritime platform to roll out integrated navigation, berthing and speed optimisation solutions across both retrofit projects and vessels under construction.

Orca AI will integrate SHI’s SVISION berthing assistance system and autonomous speed control functions into its platform, extending deployment across more than 1,200 vessels already in operation, with over 500 additional ships in the pipeline.

In parallel, SHI will embed Orca AI’s situational awareness platform into newbuild vessels equipped with its Samsung Autonomous Ship (SAS) solution, moving AI-assisted navigation into standard configuration for its autonomous offering.

The companies will also align research and development efforts to accelerate real-world scaling of autonomous capabilities, focusing on decision support, adaptive navigation and continuous performance optimisation based on large-scale operational data.

The combined system links onboard and shore-based tools, including Orca AI’s SeaPod AI lookout and FleetView fleet monitoring platform, with SHI’s vessel-integrated autonomy technologies to create a unified operational layer.
