NEW DELHI: One non-local labourer was killed and another injured after terrorists opened fire on brick kiln workers in the Kellam area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday, according to police. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attack, which claimed the life of a labourer from Chhattisgarh, and said security forces had been directed to intensify operations against those responsible.

In a post on X, Sinha said he had spoken to Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and other senior security officials following the attack. He said security forces had been instructed to step up operations and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The injured labourer, also from Chhattisgarh, has been admitted to hospital for treatment. Sinha expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured worker a speedy recovery, adding that the Jammu and Kashmir administration stood with the affected families.
