Mall of Louisiana: At least one person was killed and five others injured after a shooting inside the mall’s food court in Baton Rouge on Friday, authorities said.
Police said the gunfire followed a confrontation between two groups and was not a random attack. TJ Morse confirmed that five individuals have been taken into custody and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Dispute escalates into gunfire
The incident began around 1:30 pm when an argument between the groups escalated, leading to shots being fired. Initial reports suggested up to 10 people were injured, but officials later revised the number to five.
Panic inside the mall
The shooting triggered chaos, with shoppers and employees rushing to find cover. A store employee said she and her colleagues hid in a breakroom until police escorted them out.
Witnesses described scenes of panic, with people running and crying as security urged them to evacuate immediately.
Heavy police response
Authorities flooded the area with a large police presence. Dozens of patrol vehicles remained on site, helicopters circled overhead, and armed officers secured the परिसर through the afternoon.
Police have urged anyone with videos or information to come forward as investigations continue.
Mall closed for the day
A mall spokesperson described the incident as a “frightening day” and confirmed the shopping centre would remain closed for the rest of the day.
