MYSURU: A 20-year-old married woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a lodge room in Saligrama taluk, Mysuru district, on Saturday, her face grievously mutilated. Police have detained her alleged lover in connection with the case.

The victim, identified as Darshitha, mother of a two-year-old child, was discovered in a pool of blood with her mouth and the right side of her face ripped open. Investigators suspect the injuries may have been caused by electrocution or a pressure-triggering device.

Police said the prime suspect, Siddaraju (25), a hardware shop worker from Bettadapura in Periyapatna, had known Darshitha for seven years. He reportedly brought her from Gerasanahalli village in Hunsur—where she lived with her parents while her husband worked in Kerala—on the pretext of visiting a temple. According to preliminary findings, he allegedly murdered her after she refused his demand for marriage.

Possible Method of Killing

Officers recovered a two-metre electric cable from the room and suspect that Siddaraju may have forcibly inserted it into her mouth before switching on the power supply, causing fatal injuries. Forensic experts are assisting the investigation to determine the exact object used. Police have ruled out explosives such as gelatine sticks, noting the absence of combustible traces.

Events at the Lodge

According to lodge manager Manu, the couple checked in around 2 pm Saturday, with Siddaraju introducing Darshitha as his wife. He later stepped out to buy food, returning with a parcel. Shortly afterward, staff noticed the room locked from inside and, upon forcing the door open, found Darshitha dead.

Police said Siddaraju even attempted to carry the body on his shoulder before staff intervened and stopped him.

Superintendent of Police N. Vishnuvardhana confirmed that investigations are underway, adding that forensic analysis will be crucial in establishing the cause of death.
