AMRAVATI/NAGPUR: A 19-year-old man in Amravati district, who allegedly recorded his sexual exploitation of underage girls and extorted them by threatening to share the videos publicly, was apprehended on Tuesday and placed in police custody until April 21.

The neighboring towns of Paratwada and Achalpur, located 180km from Nagpur, were shaken by the scandal, which involved approximately 100 explicit videos that allegedly featured minor girls under coercion.

Ayan Ahmed Tanveer Ahmed is accused of enticing girls into relationships and then assaulting them physically and sexually while filming the incidents without their consent. Police sources indicate that the suspect appears in several videos, and they believe another accomplice may have assisted in recording the sexual exploitation.

On Monday, a storm erupted when Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Anil Bonde and BJP state spokesperson Shivrai Kulkarni filed a complaint with Amravati Rural SP Vishal Anand, claiming the accused enticed multiple girls via social media and assaulted them sexually. They cautioned of severe unrest if law enforcement did not respond.

While the accused is in police custody, his phone is under investigation for additional details, and the cyber cell has started the procedure of deleting videos from social networks. SP Anand stated, “Police are observing the posts of individuals who downloaded and are sharing those videos again.”

Police noted that neither the victim nor any family member has submitted a formal complaint yet, wary of societal stigma. SP Anand urged the families of victims to come forward, guaranteeing them confidentiality, in addition to the state providing legal and counseling support.

Amravati’s guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule mentioned that CM Devendra Fadnavis is also aware of the issue
