A 56-year-old revenue officer, Arun Shelar, who had been missing since August 28, was found dead in Shahapur, Thane district, on Thursday morning.
Shelar, a Mandal Officer who headed the vigilance team in the district collectorate’s sand mining branch, had left home around 8:45 am on August 28, saying he was going to attend a post-funeral ritual. When he did not return, his family filed a missing person report at Shahapur police station.
His body was later found hanging inside a metal corrugated shed near his residence by his brother, who was passing by the area around 6:30 am. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have registered a case of accidental death, and the body has been sent to a government hospital for postmortem.
