The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has approved the procurement of 98,500 vials of anti-rabies vaccine to ensure timely treatment for animal-bite victims across its hospitals and healthcare centres over the next two years.

The approval, granted on Monday, is part of the civic body’s plan to acquire a total of 1.20 lakh vaccine vials. Of these, 21,500 were purchased in May 2026, while the remaining 98,500 are now set to be procured.

An MCD official said the procurement plan was prepared to meet healthcare requirements and ensure adequate vaccine availability across the corporation’s medical facilities.

Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma said providing timely treatment to victims of animal attacks remained a priority. She added that the procurement plan followed an assessment of the civic body’s healthcare needs for the next two years.

The MCD’s hospital administration department will oversee the procurement at an estimated cost of ₹2.52 crore under a two-year rate contract for 1 ml anti-rabies vaccine vials.

Vaccines to Reach More Than 280 Health Units

Officials said the vaccines will be distributed across more than 280 MCD-run healthcare facilities, including hospitals, dispensaries, maternity centres and mobile dispensaries.

The civic body also operates more than 25 dedicated anti-rabies vaccination centres under its health department.

The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of residents, particularly those in low-income neighbourhoods who depend on MCD facilities for post-exposure treatment following dog bites and other animal attacks.
