US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to visit Mumbai and Jamnagar in October following his trip to Uzbekistan, marking his second official visit to India this year.

According to the US State Department, Rubio will meet senior Indian government officials to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries and exchange views on regional and global developments.

Energy cooperation is expected to be a key focus of the visit, with discussions planned on expanding collaboration in the sector. Rubio will also meet business leaders to explore opportunities for commercial investment and stronger economic ties between India and the United States.

Before travelling to India, Rubio will visit Uzbekistan to participate in the C5+1 Ministerial. The visit will include bilateral engagements with senior officials from the five Central Asian countries: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.

During his previous visit to India in May, Rubio travelled to Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur and New Delhi. His discussions focused on strengthening bilateral strategic ties, cooperation under the Quad framework, and collaboration in trade, defence and energy security.

US Delegation to Discuss Advanced Technology Cooperation

Ahead of Rubio’s visit, a delegation of senior officials from the US National Security Council is also expected to travel to India to prepare for renewed cooperation in advanced technologies.

According to people familiar with the matter, discussions between US and Indian officials are expected to focus on the TRUST initiative, launched in February 2025 to promote collaboration in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, space, biotechnology and other critical technology sectors.

The initiative is part of broader efforts by both countries to strengthen technological cooperation and expand strategic engagement.

Visit Comes Amid Broader Bilateral Engagement

Rubio’s upcoming trip follows a visit to India by Montana Governor Greg Gianforte, who discussed opportunities for cooperation benefiting businesses and communities in both countries.

Gianforte highlighted potential benefits in research, employment and agricultural trade, emphasising the mutual gains that closer India-US cooperation could generate.

Rubio’s visit is expected to provide another opportunity for the two governments to advance discussions on energy, technology, trade and regional security as they seek to deepen their strategic partnership.
