A man allegedly shot dead his mother and younger brother following a dispute over ancestral property in the Baberu area of Banda on Sunday, police said.
According to Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal, Baberu police received information around noon that Rajkishore Mishra had opened fire on his mother, Shanti Devi, 60, and his younger brother, Devidin, 35. Both victims were taken to hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Police said the incident stemmed from a dispute over the division of ancestral land. Officials stated that Jagdish Mishra, a resident of Hardauli Road, had sold a plot located behind the Baberu tehsil office. When buyers arrived to take possession of the land and began filling the area with soil, an argument reportedly broke out within the family regarding the distribution of the property.
During the altercation, Rajkishore’s wife, Prabha Devi, and Jagdish Mishra were also injured.
Investigators said Rajkishore later returned carrying his licensed firearm and allegedly shot both Devidin and Shanti Devi. Eyewitnesses claimed the accused fled the scene while brandishing the weapon.
Police have registered a case against the accused based on a complaint and preliminary findings. Authorities said forensic teams collected evidence from the crime scene, and four police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the suspect.
