The Maharashtra government has signed 67 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) representing proposed investments worth ₹8.57 lakh crore, with the potential to generate around 2.91 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.

The agreements were signed and exchanged in Mumbai in the presence of Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and other state government representatives as part of the launch of the ‘Invest Maharashtra’ initiative.

The proposed investments cover sectors including semiconductors, data centres, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, aerospace and defence, healthcare, agro-processing, metals and mining.

Focus on investment and employment

Fadnavis said the initiative is aimed at strengthening Maharashtra’s industrial ecosystem and attracting investment across different regions of the state.

He said the government intends to ensure that the benefits of new investments extend beyond large industries to MSMEs, local businesses, young people and farmers.

The state government has also outlined a broader economic strategy through its Maharashtra Industries, Investment & Services Policy 2025. The policy covers the period from 2026 to 2030 and sets targets for attracting ₹70.5 lakh crore in investment and generating around 50 lakh direct jobs.

Investments across emerging sectors

The newly announced MoUs include proposed projects in several technology- and infrastructure-intensive sectors.

Semiconductor manufacturing and data centres are among the areas highlighted, alongside renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, aerospace and defence, healthcare and agro-processing.

The state has also been pursuing sector-specific policies covering areas such as global capability centres, startups and innovation, animation and extended reality, bamboo, gems and jewellery and other industries.

Government aims to broaden economic opportunities

Fadnavis said the investment drive is part of Maharashtra’s broader plans to expand industrial activity and create employment opportunities across the state.

He also referred to planned developments including Mumbai 3 and Mumbai 4, Education Cities, Medicities and AI and Innovation Cities, alongside the government’s long-term economic targets.

The latest MoUs add to a series of investment commitments announced by Maharashtra in recent years. At the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2026, the state government said it had signed MoUs representing approximately ₹30 lakh crore in proposed investment, with a projected 40 lakh jobs.

The latest agreements are proposals rather than completed investments, and their eventual economic and employment impact will depend on the implementation of the projects.
