CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A 40-year-old farmer has been arrested for allegedly strangling his 17-year-old daughter in her sleep and attempting to pass it off as a suicide in Jalna district’s Badnapur taluka, police said Sunday.
The accused, identified as Hari Jogdand of Davalwadi village, was reportedly upset with his daughter’s relationship with a local youth. “He strangled her while she was asleep and later hanged the body from a metal roof angle using a rope to make it appear as suicide,” Badnapur police inspector Ganesh Survase told .
The victim, the eldest of three siblings, was a junior college student and lived with her grandmother in a second family home, while her parents and brothers stayed separately. Around 10 pm on September 5, Jogdand allegedly entered the house and committed the crime.
Discrepancies at the scene, coupled with a postmortem confirming death by strangulation, led police to suspect foul play. Jogdand was placed under surveillance and confessed during interrogation on September 6. He was arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him in two-day police custody.
Police said the investigation began after they received an anonymous call, prompting a team led by sub-inspector Santosh Kuklare to visit the spot.
