BHOPAL: In a chilling incident from Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district, a 30-year-old woman allegedly drugged her father and then helped her lover murder him with an axe for opposing their relationship, police said on Thursday.
The woman, identified as Rambai, allegedly spiked her father’s tea with sleeping pills on Tuesday night. Once he was unconscious, she summoned her lover, Raju Dumar (35), who arrived at the house armed with an axe and killed the victim, Ramkesh Yadav, in his sleep.
According to police, the couple had been in a relationship for three years, but Ramkesh had strongly disapproved and had repeatedly warned his daughter to end the affair.
After the murder, Rambai initially tried to mislead the police. She called them herself and claimed that she had returned home on Wednesday morning from collecting Mahua in the forest with her aunt, only to find her father dead. However, officers grew suspicious due to inconsistencies in her timeline and statements.
“Her version didn’t add up. During questioning, she broke down and confessed to planning and executing the murder with her lover,” a police official said. Both suspects were arrested on Thursday.
The incident comes just a day after another case in Gwalior, where a businessman reportedly died by suicide after his daughter eloped and married against his wishes, highlighting rising tensions around familial opposition to relationships in the region.
