BENGALURU: A live-in couple from Kerala has been arrested in Bengaluru after police seized narcotics worth nearly ₹11 crore from their residence.
The accused, identified as Aswin Shiju (25) and Mubina Niza (27), were taken into custody by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) following a raid at their flat in Bagaluru in east Bengaluru.
During the operation, officials recovered a large quantity of drugs, including 8,000 strips of LSD, 5 kg of hydro ganja, 534 grams of charas, and other narcotics.
Police said the couple had moved to Bengaluru about seven months ago and were allegedly involved in drug peddling.
“They were unemployed and fully engaged in drug trafficking. They procured narcotics from a Kerala native living in Thailand, who would provide them with details and contact numbers of consumers in Bengaluru,” an investigating officer said.
In a separate operation, officials also seized 1.5 kg of hydro ganja that had been concealed inside chocolate and biscuit packets and shipped from Thailand. The consignment was intercepted at the foreign post office in Chamarajpet.
Meanwhile, two Nigerian women who had overstayed their visas were arrested during a raid at their residence in Mico Layout. They have since been transferred to the foreigners’ detention centre in Nelamangala.
In another case, Whitefield police arrested 28-year-old Lingaraj Das and seized 3.2 kg of hashish oil along with 27 kg of ganja, valued at approximately ₹50 lakh.
