PUNE: A five-year-old girl was killed by a leopard on Sunday in Pimparkhed village, located in Shirur taluka, about 75 km from Pune. The child had gone to deliver water to her grandfather, who was working in a nearby sugarcane field just 300 metres from their home, when the leopard attacked, reports Alim Shaikh.
The victim, Shivanya Nilesh Bombe, suffered grave injuries to her neck and hand. She was rushed to Manchar Civil Hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Her uncle, Ganesh Bombe, said, “Shivanya’s grandfather, Arun, witnessed the attack and tried to rescue her, but the leopard had already caused fatal injuries before vanishing into the sugarcane field.”
Shivanya’s parents, both farmers, have another daughter younger than her. Family members said leopard sightings in the area are not uncommon, and their pet dog had been attacked by a wild animal just two weeks earlier.
This incident marks the second fatal leopard attack in Shirur taluka this year.
