NEW DELHI: The Centre has altered land use for nearly 101 acres within the Central Vista area to facilitate the construction of government offices and official residences, the ministry of housing and urban affairs informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday. It also stated that 2,994 trees have either been felled or transplanted as part of the Central Vista redevelopment project.
In a written reply, the ministry detailed changes across seven plots.
Land use for Plot No. 1, a 15-acre parcel on Church Road near the DTC Central Secretariat bus terminal, has been revised from “transportation (bus terminal/parking), government (President’s Estate and Parliament House), and recreational (neighbourhood play area)” to “residential.” The Vice President’s Enclave has been developed on this site.
For Plot No. 2, measuring 9.5 acres and located opposite Parliament House, land use has been changed from “recreational (district park)” to “government (Parliament House).” Plot No. 3, spread over 7.7 acres south of Dr Rajendra Prasad Road near the National Archives, has been reclassified from “public and semi-public facilities” to “government office and recreational (district park).”
Similarly, Plot No. 4, covering 24.7 acres south of Dr Rajendra Prasad Road and east of Janpath, has been converted from “public and semi-public facilities” to “government office.” Plot No. 5, a 4.5-acre site east of Man Singh Road and south of Ashoka Road, has also been changed from “public and semi-public facilities” to “government office.”
Plot No. 6, measuring 24.7 acres north of Maulana Azad Road and east of Janpath, has been reclassified from “public and semi-public facilities” to “government office and recreational (district park).”
Finally, Plot No. 7, a 15-acre site north of Dalhousie Road near South Block, has seen its land use altered from “government office and recreational (neighbourhood play area)” to “residential.” The new Prime Minister’s residence is being constructed on this plot, the ministry said.
