The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration seized medicines worth ₹4.02 lakh from two unlicensed Amazon storage facilities and, in a separate inspection, found expired soft drinks and pest infestation at Bengaluru’s Hockey Club.
The drug seizures followed inspections at facilities in Thattanahalli in Anekal taluk and Aerospace in Devanahalli. Officials said the medicines were being stored without valid drug licences.
At the Thattanahalli facility, a team led by Manohar, assistant drugs controller with the State Intelligence Branch, seized medicines worth ₹2,45,352 from the premises of M/s Amazon Seller Services Pvt Ltd.
In a separate operation at Aerospace in Devanahalli, a team led by drugs inspector Vibha seized medicines worth ₹1,57,000 from another unlicensed Amazon facility.
The department said the raids were conducted based on intelligence about major compliance violations and described them as a coordinated crackdown on the illegal storage and distribution of pharmaceuticals.
Amazon was contacted for a response but had not replied at the time of publication.
Expired Drinks, Pest Infestation Found at Hockey Club
During a food safety inspection at Bengaluru’s Hockey Club, officials found 40 bottles of expired soft drinks in storage. They also detected soda bottles with labelling that did not comply with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India requirements.
The inspection further revealed unhygienic conditions in areas used for food preparation and storage. Officials found pest infestation in food preparation areas and said the conditions could lead to food contamination.
The Food Safety Division issued a notice to the club’s food business operator and seized the expired and improperly labelled products.
The department said further legal action would be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and applicable regulations.
“Continuous inspections” of establishments involved in the manufacture, storage and sale of food will continue, the department said, adding that strict action would be taken against those violating food safety and quality standards.
