A 40-year-old ophthalmologist has been arrested in Dharwad, Karnataka, for allegedly murdering her 43-year-old husband, an anesthesiologist, and attempting to kill their eight-year-old son, police said on Thursday.

The incident came to light after the victim’s relatives became suspicious when they were unable to contact him and received repeated responses from his wife, who claimed he was resting or had stepped out. Concerned family members later visited the apartment and found the doctor dead with multiple injuries, while the couple’s young son was discovered with stab wounds and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to police, the accused allegedly attempted to die by suicide by injecting herself with a large dose of insulin after officers arrived at the scene. She was taken into custody on Wednesday.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to murder, attempted murder, and causing grievous hurt. Police said the motive behind the crime remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
