Mysuru: A 39-year-old businessman from Hunsur in Karnataka allegedly killed his wife and two young daughters before dying by suicide at his residence, police said. The incident reportedly took place late Monday night and came to light around noon on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Harisha, his wife Nischitha (37), and their daughters Nikshitha (14) and Raksha (8).
According to police, Harisha was involved in the resale of vehicles and the real estate business. Investigators said he owned several properties, two of which had recently been attached by banks.
Mysuru Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, who visited the scene, said Harisha left behind a suicide note detailing his assets, outstanding loans and instructions regarding the distribution of his property among people known to him.
Police said the exact motive behind the killings and suicide is yet to be established.
During the investigation, officers learned that Harisha’s mother, who lived with the family at their home in Maruthi Layout, had been staying at a relative’s house for the past three days.
The bodies of Nischitha and the two children were found lying on a bed in what appeared to be a sleeping position. Preliminary investigations suggest that adhesive tape had been placed over their mouths and noses, resulting in their deaths while they were asleep. After the alleged murders, Harisha is believed to have died by hanging.
The incident came to light after a friend of Harisha was unable to contact the family and alerted the police around midday.
A case has been registered at the Hunsur Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
Police said Harisha was considered financially well-off and are investigating the circumstances that may have led to the incident despite his ownership of multiple assets. A special team has been constituted to probe the case.
