At least 18 pilgrims travelling in the Pahalgam-bound Amarnath Yatra convoy were injured after a multi-vehicle collision involving two Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses, a car and a private bus in Ramban district on Monday morning, officials said.
The accident occurred around 7.21 am at Langar Point in Chanderkote on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. According to officials, one SRTC bus rammed into another, pushing it into a car, which was then forced into a private bus, resulting in the chain collision.
The crash briefly disrupted traffic on the highway before normal vehicular movement was restored.
All the injured pilgrims were shifted to the district hospital in Ramban. Officials said they sustained minor injuries and were in stable condition.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Earlier in the day, the 12th batch of 7,754 Amarnath pilgrims departed from Yatri Niwas at Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu for the twin base camps at Baltal and Pahalgam under tight security arrangements.
