External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said India is ready to support efforts to bring an end to the war in Ukraine during his visit to Kyiv on Thursday.
His visit focused on peace efforts and strengthening India-Ukraine ties, including trade and investment. It came shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to move from an “endless war” towards ending the conflict.
Jaishankar’s visit also took place amid increased Russian attacks on merchant shipping in the Black Sea, which have reportedly resulted in the deaths of five Indian seafarers. He also expressed condolences following the death of an Indian national in a recent attack in Kyiv.
Jaishankar became the first Indian external affairs minister to make a standalone visit to Kyiv, highlighting India’s continued diplomatic engagement with both sides of the conflict.
