French shipowner Jacques de Chateauvieux has returned to shipping investments in China through JS&Co working with Jiangnan Shipyard to build a new ammonia vessel type.

CSSC Jiangnan Shipyard and CSSC China Shipbuilding Trading have jointly inked memorandum of cooperation for two plus two options very large integral green ammonia carrier (VLAC) with JS&Co.

As a pioneer of zero carbon emission technology, Jiangnan Shipyard has been proactively cooperating with major stakeholders in the industry to promote the development of zero-emission liquefied gas carriers.

Cooperating with JS&Co and Bureau Veritas, the shipyard will build 93,000 cu m ammonia-powered VLAC, which will be the world’s largest ammonia carrier.

The VLAC will be equipped with ammonia power main engine and compatible with all functions of VLGC.

Upon delivery, the vessels will be used to transport liquid ammonia for several new green ammonia projects under development globally, including the project that JS&Co is promoting to meet the demands from Europe and Northeast Asia.
