A 75-year-old man died in Indore after his 20-year-old granddaughter allegedly attacked him with a cricket bat at his home early Sunday. During police questioning, the woman alleged that her grandfather had sexually abused her when she was a child.
According to police, the woman went to her grandparents’ home on a motorcycle at around 3am carrying a cricket bat. Her grandmother opened the door before the woman went into her grandfather’s room and allegedly struck him repeatedly on the head and face.
“She repeatedly struck her grandfather on his head and face 7 to 8 times,” Additional Commissioner of Police Ashok Singh Jadon said.
The grandmother raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to the house. The injured man was taken to Aurobindo Hospital, where he later died during treatment, police said.
Woman recalls alleged childhood abuse
During questioning, the woman told police that she had lived with her grandparents and parents when she was a child. She alleged that her grandfather, a retired trooper with the Madhya Pradesh Special Armed Force, would grope her and touch her inappropriately.
She reportedly told her parents about the alleged abuse at the time, after which the family moved out and began living separately.
Police said the woman’s decision to confront her grandfather was preceded by an argument with her parents late Saturday night.
According to Jadon, the woman had been scolded by her parents for staying out late. Her parents expressed concern about her safety, but the argument reportedly brought back memories of the alleged abuse she said she had experienced as a child.
During the confrontation, she allegedly questioned why her parents had not intervened when she was being abused.
She then took the keys to her motorcycle, left home carrying a cricket bat and went to her grandparents’ house, police said.
The woman’s allegations about the alleged childhood abuse form part of the police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and the events that preceded it.
