US President Donald Trump has announced a new trade agreement with India, months after imposing steep tariffs on Indian goods in August 2025. The announcement was made on his social media platform, Truth Social, and outlined major changes in tariffs, energy imports, and bilateral cooperation.
Earlier, the Trump administration had imposed a 50% tariff on Indian products, with 25% linked to India’s crude oil imports from Russia. US officials had argued that India’s purchases were indirectly supporting Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine.

In his post, Modi described his conversation with Trump as “wonderful” and welcomed the reduction in tariffs on “Made in India” products to 18%.
