US President Donald Trump has once again rejected allegations linking him to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, stating that he has been “totally exonerated” and has “nothing to hide.”
Speaking to reporters, Trump said multiple investigations had cleared him of any wrongdoing. “I have nothing to hide. I’ve been exonerated. I have nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein,” he said, adding that Democrats had scrutinised the matter in hopes of finding incriminating evidence but “found just the opposite.”
Trump further claimed that Epstein had opposed his political ambitions. “Jeffrey Epstein was fighting that I don’t get elected with some author, a sleazebag, by the way,” he alleged, without elaborating further.
During the exchange, Trump also suggested that other political figures — including former president Bill Clinton — had faced scrutiny in connection with Epstein. Criticising Democrats, he remarked, “It’s really interesting because they’ve been pulled in. Think of it. They’ve been pulled in. Clinton and many other Democrats have been pulled in.”
He also responded to remarks attributed to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who reportedly suggested that she and her husband were being drawn into the Epstein controversy to divert attention from Trump and alleged that his administration had “something to hide.” Dismissing the claims, Trump said, “No, no. They’re getting pulled and that’s their problem. I don’t know. They’re going to have to see what happens. But I watched her in Munich, and she seriously has Trump derangement syndrome.”
Epstein died in 2019 while in federal custody awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His associations with influential figures across politics, business and entertainment have remained under public scrutiny.
The latest remarks follow the release of additional Justice Department documents referencing past contact between Trump and investigators during the mid-2000s probe into Epstein. According to a 2019 FBI interview summary, former Palm Beach police chief Michael Reiter stated that Trump had called during the investigation and expressed relief that authorities were taking action, noting that people had long been aware of Epstein’s conduct. The document also recorded Trump as saying he had barred Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago club and had left a gathering after noticing teenagers present. Trump has previously maintained that he severed ties with Epstein more than two decades ago.
Following the release of the files, investigators reviewed allegations and tips involving several prominent individuals, including Trump. However, officials said they did not uncover credible information warranting further investigation into sexual misconduct claims against him.
The records also confirm that prosecutors issued a subpoena to Mar-a-Lago in 2021 as part of their case against Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking.
The developments have once again brought renewed attention to Epstein’s network and the political crosscurrents surrounding the case, even as Trump continues to deny any involvement.
